Remnant Revolution

Remnant Revolution is a women-led enterprise that tackles textile waste, while creating opportunities for local women. The business combines sustainability with community impact by rescuing surplus fabrics that would end up in landfill and transforming them into unique, handcrafted homeware and lifestyle products, through a network of skilled and empowered local women. Social and environmental impact is central to Remnant Revolution’s approach, shaping how its products are designed, sourced, produced and brought to market. The company has therefore embedded its primary, social purpose into its constitution, using Purposely as a basis for creating its articles of association.

The articles also contain a Statement of Responsible Business Principles, to help shape the board’s decision-making. The principles include that the business:

  • acts as a guardian for future generations, by helping to protect the natural world and conserve finite resources,
  • is a responsible and responsive employer, working to protect and nurture its people to learn, contribute and thrive, and
  • deals honestly and fairly with customers and suppliers.

Remnant Revolution has also incorporated Purposely’s Net Zero Option into its articles. This means that it has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions as part of its purpose, setting a Net Zero Target backed by an implementation plan and a responsible approach to any carbon offsetting it may use. Additionally, Remnant Revolution created a ‘Golden Share’ in the company. This gives the golden shareholder the ability to prevent amendments being made to the articles that could dilute or remove Remnant Revolution’s commitment to its purpose. This mechanism helps to ensure that, in the long term, positive social and environmental impact will remain at the core of the business.
